JESSEFEST' HONORS THE LATE JESSE TAYLOR
MAYOR DECLARES APRIL 10TH JESSE 'GUITAR' TAYLOR DAY

Stars Gather To Honor A Texas Legend And Raise Money For The Jesse Taylor Fund

Antone's Night Club
213 West 5th Street, Austin, TX
512-320-8424
Thursday April 10th, 2008
Doors @ 7:00PM

Austin, TX - On April 10th, 2008, some of Texas' greatest stars will gather at Antones to honor the late Jesse 'Guitar' Taylor with an evening of very special performances. Perfect, as Austin Mayor Will Wynn has declared April 10th to be 'Jesse 'Guitar' Taylor Day!' To celebrate with song, Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock, Terry Allen, Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton (Double Trouble), Texana Dames and Reckless Kelly will be joined by David Holt, Frosty Smith, John X. Reed, Ponty Bone, Davis McLarty, Richard Bowden, Glen Fukanaga, Will Sexton and Robbie Gersoe and (oh yes, every good tribute needs them) surprise guests. A suggested donation of $20.00 will go directly to the newly created 'Jesse Taylor Fund,' which is targeted for helping musicians and their families, the Health Alliance For Austin Musicians (H.A.A.M.), and hepatitis-c victims.

To further inspire this celebration of Jesse's life, the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture will be hosting the "For the Love of Jesse" art show on Sunday April 6th, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The exhibit will feature the original black-and-white illustrations by Taylor for the paperback book "Deal Me In" by Austin poet Alyce Guynn. A musical performance by The Texana Dames will begin at 5:00PM, and videos of some of Jesse's performances will begin at dusk.

Jesse Taylor, himself a victim of the ravages of hepatitis-c, was one of Texas' all time most influential guitarists. A product of the rough and tumble Lubbock music scene, Jesse grew up with folks like Ely, Jimmie Dale, Butch Hancock, Ponty, John X., T.J. MacFarland, and Lloyd Maines, and he toured and played with Joe, Butch, Jimmie Dale, Billy Joe Shaver, Angela Strehli, Kinky and literally dozens of other greats of Texas. While Jesse was Joe Ely's guitarist (1975-1982), even Linda Ronstadt tried to hire him away for her band. Jesse's music continues to inspire young players all over the globe. It will do so for generations to come.

Join those who worked and played with Jesse for a full evening of tribute. Help them raise money for the musicians and their families that need the financial and/or medical help that so many do not have. Like Jesse's life, it looks to be a wild musical ride, so get there early, stay late, and sing along loudly!

COTTON CLUB: HALFWAY TO SLATON
May 8 - July 28, 2007

Reception & Performance
with live music by The Texana Dames featuring Tommy and Charlene Hancock!
June 1, 2007
6:00 -  9:00pm

THE BUDDY HOLLY CENTER is thrilled to invite the community to experience Cotton Club: Halfway to Slaton, an exhibit celebrating the culture, history and impact of the famous Cotton Club of Lubbock, Texas. Spanning over forty years and four different locations, the Cotton Club was once the only profitable venue for a band to stop between Dallas and Los Angeles. The Cotton Club was unique because of its blindness to race, color and musical genre, presenting artists such as Little Richard, Elvis, and Willie Nelson, among many others.

For over forty years the Cotton Club stood as the most influential and diverse performance venue in the region. Cotton Club: Halfway to Slaton will explore the social, political and cultural impact the Cotton Club had on West Texas, and the music history that has made West Texas famous around the globe. It is a well known fact that Buddy Holly saw Elvis perform at the Cotton Club, forever impacting his musical career and life. Cotton Club: Halfway to Slaton celebrates the immeasurable influence the notorious dance hall had on this region and the world.

Dear Friends,

This is an announcement written by our friend Susie Fowler who has a gorgeous space out in the hill country for us all to enjoy. Please join us!

Traci Lamar - Texana Dames

----

Three years ago the Texana Dames began my Music in the Gallery Series with a wonderful acoustic concert played to a full house.
I'm thrilled to announce their return for my Mother's Day Concert!

Word got out that the Hancock Family would be singing in the Hill Country, so now other musicians are signing on to share the music:  Richard Bowden, fiddle player extraordinaire, will sit in with the Dames and I've heard that Barbara K. Kouyman, from Timbuck 3, will be joining Richard and the party may GROW!  I'll keep you updated if others join the showcase, but call now to reserve your space.

(My gift to MOMS - 20% off all pottery during Mother's Day Weekend.)

As is tradition here, you bring the wine or beer and we'll provide the glasses, light snacks, iced tea, cranberry-lemonade and ambience.   Feel free to bring a potluck appetizer for the table, if you are inclined.

Gate opens at 10:00 AM, so come early and have a family picnic on the porch or toss out your blanket and enjoy the hill country views.
Bring your camera for a family portrait in the early summer wildflowers.

Bringing the family?
(call for family discount)

Children welcome but you must watch your own! The cliff is close!
Call 264-9923 and leave your contact info or email me your # of tickets required.

Harmony, it's what mothers create in the world.
Let's gather together to honor the wisdom, creativity and beauty created in the music.

LUBBOCK TO LUCKENBACH
April 22, 2007
in the legendary Luckenbach Dance Hall

It just makes good sense that Texas Music Metropolis',  Luckenbach and Lubbock, get together once in a while. Lubbock, Texas, world renowned as one of the creative hotspots of music over the last 50 years, gave birth and inspiration to Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, Mac Davis, Joe Ely, The Maines Brothers, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale and Collin Gilmore, Jesse Taylor, Ponty Bone, Bob Livingston, Natalie Maines and the list goes on and on and on.

Smack dab in the middle of all this scene and known to many of the "Lubbock Mafia," Singer Songwriters as the Godfather and Godmother of the West Texas Music scene for more than the aforementioned half century, are Tom X Hancock and his lovely talented wife Charlene.

Proprietors of the legendary Cotton Club, and Lubbock's top dance-band leader for decades. Former Crickets member Sonny Curtis has cited Tommy Hancock, as "a strong influence on Buddy (Holly) and us all."

Born and raised in Lubbock, Tommy was pushed by his grandmother into violin lessons and was trained classically. But music couldnšt have been further from his mind. At age 16, he joined the service, traveling overseas as a paratrooper and in the Military Police. Yet destiny had music in mind. In 1946, after service, he followed the path of least resistance, and returned to Lubbock where he put together a popular swing band, The Roadside Playboys, and eked out a living in the rough and tumble honky tonk culture of West Texas. There were dues to be paid. Tommy anted up and played good hands for years, becoming a regional idol as he aimed to set free the repressive cultural spirit of those times.

Along the way, Tommy met his wife Charlene, and together they created a musical family, spending 10 years on the road polishing their skills and bringing joy to others. In a converted school bus, as the Supernatural Family Band, much like Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, they roamed the Rocky Mountains in search of truth, beauty, music and fun.

Charlene Hancock and daughters Conni Hancock and Traci Hancock Lamar are the Texana Dames who developed their style in the legendary Supernatural Family Band. Now based in Austin, the Texana Dames represent all the traditions that make up Texas music from Western swing, Mexican conjunto, and Cajun to blues and rock 'n' roll. The Texana Dames were inducted into the Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Fame 2002.

In a very special Sunday afternoon appearance at Luckenbach, beginning at 4:00 PM on April 22nd, 2007, The Dames and their band will be hosting a party and celebration of Tom X and Charlenešs spirit and love of life.

It just makes good sense - Lubbock and Luckenbach!

Come out & let the Texana Dames and some "Surprise Special Guests" entertain you.

Cover is just $5 at the door, Kids 12 and under are free.

Check out www.luckenbachtexas.com  for a more info or
call the Combination Post Office/General Store/Beer Joint at 888-311-8990.

"FIRE IN THE WATER, EARTH IN THE AIR:  LEGENDS OF WEST TEXAS MUSIC"

Author Chris Oglesby is proud to announce that the University of Texas Press has published his book about Lubbock's amazing musical heritage, "Fire in the Water, Earth in the Air: Legends of West Texas Music".

To celebrate, Chris has invited all the artists featured in the book -- and artists who otherwise have connections to Lubbock, West Texas, and Stubb's -- to join in a "Lubbock All-Star Stubb's Sunday Night Jam Reunion" at Stubb's Bar-BQ, 8th & Red River, Austin, TX, on Sunday November 12, 2006.

The festivities will start in the late afternoon and go into evening (doors around 6:00, music starts 7:00-8:00).  In addition to a book signing event, this will be an "open-mic" jam session with opportunities for musicians with Lubbock roots to get on stage and jam.

Copies of the book will be available at the event; Chris will be signing books and we hope that the artists will also make themselves available for signatures as well.

YEAR-ROUND VALENTINES

We are particularly thankful for this special place. It's really our 21st century Mansion on the Hill! As you've probably discovered, there are 3 doors: texanadames.com, tommyxhancock.com & akashicrecordings.net. There are many rooms filled with history, love, music and more. Some of our favorite features are the Photo Album with audio, and the 2 Videos. We invite you to visit this Party Schedule, Merchandise, Tom X Sez and Announcements Pages frequently as we plan to keep them fresh with newness in 2004. There's a lot here. Take your time. Relax. If you have to leave, please come back as soon as you can. Write us a note when you have the time. We'll be here and we welcome you to visit us anytime 24 hours a day. All 3 doors are always open!

Please join us in thanking the many who contributed to the ongoing construction of this amazing architecture...it's a whole story!

Beverly Howell built this site and made it as easy as possible for us to have fun "decorating and furnishing" as she put it. Her goal for years has been to bring soul to the internet. That's how we knew that she was the Dame for us. She has taken special care and has put personal attention into customizing, making us feel comfortable. It was her idea to include our voices with the pictures she so skillfully retouched in our Photo Album. - Thank You for your expertise, Beverly.

Erin McArthur from an early age has supported us consistently and constantly in many many ways. This website would not exist without her. She has made her precious time, energy, understanding and talent available to us individually and as a whole. She has worked closely with Beverly Howell in the maintenence of our site and graciously kept our Party Schedule updated with her brilliant writing. Any notices you receive from us not signed by one of us has more than likely been written by Erin. - Thank You for your friendship, Erin.

Michael McFarland, even as his family grows, has managed to make time for us. He has helped to educate us in the ways of the computer, translating and conveying info. He has helped us with his formal education to begin our process of archiving and preserving over 50 years worth of creativity. The creation of the Merchandise Page is much to Michael's credit. - Thank You for your interest, Michael...Thanks to the entire McFarland/Ramirez branch of the Supernatural Family.

Joyce Meyer made buying & selling our merchandise easy by setting up our PayPal account. We met her through Beverly and she's always a pleasure to work with. She's proof that dames of a feather do flock together...?! - Thank You for answering your phone!

Robert Lovato, from Sound Recorders, has gone beyond the call of duty in the technical design of our cd covers and the scanning and retouching of countless photos. Also a new father, we have been fortunate that he has made time for us. - Thank You for being easy going.

Guy Juke, arteest extraordinaire, created the TDame and Akashic Recordings logos. He's also readily fulfilled our every poster need. - Thank You for Being.

Photograghers - Thank You for sharing your art. If your work has been included on our site but for some reason you are not accredited please let us know so we can thank you publicly! So many people have generously given us photos over the years that we've had difficulty keeping track. Write to texanadames@earthlink.net.
