THE BAND
These are the musicians who have played with us the most.... we
LOVE them!

John X Reed - Guitar
email:
johnxreed@aol.com
John X Reed began playing guitar
with the Supernatural Family
Band almost immediately upon Jimmie Dale Gilmore (Flatlanders)
introducing them around 1976. His uncanny ability to grasp the
essence of such a weird and varied repertoire created an instantly
deep and ongoing bond.
He's continued to play with the Texana Dames
most of the time since 1988 and has been instrumental, so to speak,
in developing their sound. One can hear in his playing his purity
of conviction and dedication to the soul of individual styles of,
particularly, roots music.
As Charlene Hancock pointed out,
"Everyone that John ever plays with considers him to be 'their'
guitar player."
Doug Sahm, Alvin Crow, The Nortons and Roky Erickson of the '13th
Floor Elevators', to name only a few, have called him 'theirs'.
John X co-produced with Tommy X
(hence, 'Dos Equis') the cd "Austin Tea Party" which Akashic
Recordings boasts as 'One of our best!' On it John plays bass,
rhythm and lead guitars.
John is also featured, along with longtime friend, Jesse 'Guitar'
Taylor, on a cd of guitar instrumentals called 'Southside Guitars' -
released on South Congress Records.

Buddha Paul Mills
email:
buddhamills@msn.com
Inspired and encouraged by both his
father and grandfather, who were also drummers, Paul began playing
at age 11. Soon after moving to Austin from Victorville, California
in the early '80s he began playing with the well established Mike
Kindred, writer of "Cold Shot" - Stevie Ray Vaughan.
The beloved Ponty
Bone introduced Paul Mills into the Supernatural Family in the
late '80s. His easygoing presence and sense of humor combined with
his professionalism and willingness to simply 'play' cinched many,
many miles with the Texana Dames. His open heart and open mind
reflects his honorable nickname - 'Buddha' Paul Mills.
Paul's also played regularly with GRAMMY Award winning Chris Thomas,
Chris Duarte, Jesse Guitar Taylor, Miss Lavelle (White), Ponty Bone,
The Keepers, Papa Mali & the Imperial Golden Crown Harmonizers.

Tomās Ramirez - Sax
Visit Tomas website
Tomas has a passion for playing that
has led him to record, tour & sit-in with countless bands over the
years. 13 years worth of weekly jams with the
Texana Dames on Sundays at Austin's 'La Zona
Rosa' and later at 'Guero's Taco Bar' naturally took Tomas to his
roots and everyone else to a new and fresh understanding of tejano
and conjuncto music.
Tomas's uncle, Wally Almendarez, played with the popular 'Beto
Villa' in the '50s. Later, Wally created his own danceband that
brought an air of professionalism and competence to a genre of music
that before had only been casual. He was known for tight
arrangements with accordion and saxophone. Tomas joined his Uncle
Wally's band at age 12 with the understanding that he had to
practice and study hard. Tomas continued his study of music at both
Del Mar School of Music in Corpus Christi, Texas and at the
University of Texas in Austin.
Tomas has toured and recorded with such notables as Jerry Jeff
Walker, Christopher Cross, Carole King, the Lost Gonzos and many
more. He's traveled extensively to South Africa, Australia, Russia,
Scandinavia and Europe.
Throughout his love affair with music, Tomas has formed bands with
musicians as accomplished as himself to perform his original
compositions. Two recordings that feature his music 'Thanks For The
Goodbyes' and 'Tejazz' have become collector's items.
To this day, Tomas has an unquenchable thirst to grow musically.
You can hear his "homework" on his website.

Paul Skelton - Guitar
email:
pmskelton@aol.com
Paul Skelton, permanent member of
the Cornell Hurd Band, plays frequently with the
Texana Dames. The similarities between the Supernatural Masses
and the Hurd Herd makes him a natural, or rather supernatural, fit.
Paul loves to play guitar, much as a child loves to play in general.
He can be quirky, fun & unpredictable, unafraid of 'mistakes'. At
the same time, a lifetime of seriously listening and paying
attention to all sorts of music is clearly evident in his playing.
Paul enjoys playing original music with Wayne Hancock, Libby
Bosworth and other Austin singer-songwriters. He's also become a
fixture at the annual tributes to Buck Owens and Loretta Lynn at
Austin's Continental Club.
For more information and to obtain recordings featuring "Show
Business Veteran Paul Skelton" visit the
Cornell
Hurd Band website. |
