When the family moved to New Mexico, it afforded Traci the opportunity to learn Spanish fluently which lead to an avenue for performing Spanish songs. With encouragement from and under the tutelage of accordion great Ponty Bone, Traci began playing the accordion soon after her arrival in Austin. This has become her signature instrument. Since 1990, Traci has been one-third of the Texana Dames along with her mother, Charlene and her sister, Conni. In October, 2002, the Texana Dames, as well as, the Supernatural Family Band were inducted into the Texas Country Music Association Hall of Fame. As an Invited Performer to the Jimmie Rogers Jubilee, Traci received an award from the Texas Music Heritage Foundation, recognizing her talents and contribution to Texas Music. In 1989, she was also recognized as the first runner up accordionist in Music City (Texas). She has performed extensively in Austria, Germany, Holland, England, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland, Mexico and Peru. When asked what moved her to this particular style of music (Spanish music), she answers simply, "I am attracted to romantic music - anything romantic moves me. I love a sad song and Spanish music is inherently passionate and romantic in its sadness." The Texana Dames were inducted into the Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Fame 2002. The Supernatural Family Band was inducted into the Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Fame 2002. |
